A glimpse of the happenings at The Safer Dutchtown Summit at NICstl. (Archived)

The Safer Dutchtown Conference which happened last November 05, aspires to go beyond the typical community safety discussion, where the mere exchange of harsh reality, finger-pointing, and agitation with high emotions is the norm. We want our conversation to focus entirely on what we can do to become safer by learning, sharing, organizing, and innovating in personal and neighborhood safety.

For Caya Aufiero, the president of the Dutchtown Community Improvement District, taking back Dutchtown, St. Louis from the increasing statistics of burglary, gunfights and car crashes is her duty as not just as the DCID president but also as a resident of the neighborhood and St. Louis at large. And the Safer Dutchtown Conference was their initial step in a more inclusive and empowering effort for a safer St. Louis.

The Conference will also showcase a new camera system designed to read license plates. The technology will be used throughout the district to store surveillance footage by date, time and even car color. In addition to that, St. Louis police will be deploying more officers in Dutchtown to strengthen the enforcement of the law as to mitigate the spiking criminality in the neighborhood.
